According to this New York Times article, the debate over stem cells could be averted altogether. Scientists seem on the brink of reprogramming skin cells back to their embryonic state and using them much as they would have used stem cells. This seems to solve the moral problem of using stem cells from aborted babies, which has huge moral and ethical implications. Though I am still cautious when it comes to medical advances and a firm believer in the “I will not play at God” line in the Hippocratic Oath, I am looking forward to seeing how this attempt at saving life without presupposing the death of another will work out.
