There is an Old Icelandic word, “veiðinn” which means, “expert fisherman” (Don’t ask why I know this). Jesus, having such people as disciples, used a now famous metaphor to describe their work: He would make them “fishers of men”. Now exactly what type of fisherman would they be? A fly-fisherman type? A line-fisherman? What type of “bait” would they use? Daniel Wallace addresses all of these questions to help us grasp what is an oft-mistaken metaphor.
