I noticed an ad for Pagan Christianity? by George Barna and Frank Viola this past weekend, and noticed it again in the local bookstore. With a thesis that most normative Christian church practices find roots in pagan history instead of the Scriptures, I was interested to see what I believe to be the most important chapter, which focused on preaching. After reading it, I knew that it wasn’t worth my time (course, seeing Barna on the cover should have told me something…)

Peter Jones reviews the book here. It’s amazing to me that the basic conclusion of the book is that we should have small, communal gatherings with conversational preaching and… well, an emergent church. Read the review, and entertain the book, but don’t waste your time with the claims.
